Last Night of the Proms 2014
On 27th September 2014 the Band hosted the Manx Last Night at the Proms at the Gaiety Theatre. Present in the audience this year was the Mayor of Douglas, the Band’s President Sir Laurence New and Lady New, a number of invited guests and 450 or more followers and friends of the organisation.
It was a great pleasure to have our home grown and ex member of Manx Youth Band & Manx Concert Brass guest soloist Helen Power singing with the Band.
The first half of the concert was as usual an enjoyable mix of more serious music both from the Band and from which showed of her vocal range and different singing styles!
Helen has a fantastic operatic voice and sang a number of beautiful songs, getting the audience to join in with her singing along to a selection of west end favourites.
After a change of clothes into something a bit more suitable the second half opened up with “Radetsky March” and then continued with other traditional proms tunes including “Jerusalem” and “Rule Britannia”. The singing was lead by our special guest Helen Power.
It was an excellent night enjoyed by audience, Band and our soloist. Well done to the sub committee who put in so much time to ensure the night was a success. Special thanks to Helen and her accompanist Steven Edis and to Ian for keeping it all together.
